Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
