Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
