Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps.
