Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A few think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
